A Season of Thanksgiving

November, 2007

As the leaves change and the weather cools in Virginia, our thoughts return to a hot, still, sunny afternoon in central Kenya, in a community called Mbeere. We had spent the day with twenty of the community leaders, working on rebuilding one of the central wells in the community. Women filled up patches of the surrounding grass and the excitement could be see in the children’s faces. The well at the center of the scene had been the main source of life giving water for thousands in the area. Children played nearby to pass the time while the LOTI team worked through the process of teaching the community how to assess and revive a well. Finally, the pump was reassembled and one of the youth began pumping the well with all his might. All held their breath waiting to see what the day’s labor would amount to. First, a slow trickle, and then all of a sudden buckets of water were pouring from a well that for five years had lay dry in a semi-arid region. Instantly, a young boy of about five rushed to the water source, throwing his hands into the crystal clear cool water, and drinking with wonder filled eyes and a grateful heart.

“Instantly, a young boy of about five rushed to the water source, throwing his hands into the crystal clear cool water, and drinking with wonder filled eyes and a grateful heart.”

I wanted to take a moment and paint you that picture, a young boy receiving a gift that YOU have given him! THIS Thanksgiving season I want to thank each and every one of you that have supported LOTI in demonstrating the love of God by meeting people’s basic needs in rural, poor communities. You have given many the gift of water, the gift of light, and the gift of hope for a better future for their children. I warmly thank you on their behalf, for the life-giving joy, hope, and love that YOU have given them! We have much to give thanks for here at LOTI this Thanksgiving season! This past year has been filled with many answered prayers and gracious blessings. We are now serving poor communities in partnership with long-term ministry efforts in Kenya, Tanzania and the Dominican Republic.

A new DVD has been prepared for your viewing and has been made available through the LOTI website (http://www.youtube.com/lotint). Unfortunately, everyone cannot travel to these remote locations where LOTI is working. However, our hope is that by watching the video, you can receive a clearer picture of the everyday struggles faced in other parts of the world, as well as ways that LOTI is stepping in. It particular, the video highlights some of the work done in 2006-2007. As you watch it, we pray that it would lead you to a place of thankfulness to God for all that He has given us. At the same time, we invite you to ask a question that I ask myself often, “Why have I been entrusted with all this? And what am I to do with it?” Please continue to keep the words of Jesus in your heart, “When you did it to one of the Least of These, you did as unto me.” With hearts of thankfulness we wish you and your family the best this Thanksgiving,

Sincerely,
